Communities
of Resistance
Oral History Project
As well as a collection of 'physical' archive materials,
the NMP Anti-Racist Trust is currently seeking finding for
a Oral History project aimed at "putting the record straight"
by collecting, preserving and disseminating the spoken history
of Newham's black communities' resistance to racism.
This
will include grassroots experiences on arrival in Britain,
reactions to cultural and social differences, experiences
of racism and the ways that communities resisted it. We
hopw to raise sufficient funds for a Research Officer, who
will take the lead in developing a minidisc collection of
oral testimony, arranging interviews with a wide range of
individuals who have been participants in events over the
last 30 years.
Guidelines
for the methodology of conducting interviews, ethical guidance
and documentation covering copyright issues have already
been prepared, in line with advice from the Oral
History Society.
